Silly Auntie M

Just when Linc was certain he'd cornered the market on wacky antics, Maralene showed up this week. Yeah, buddy, she is crazy. And you'll never have more fun.

on all fours

Onlookers note that Lincoln might be walking before crawling. Given his immense and almost obsessive preoccupation with standing and shuffling his feet, I don't correct them. He is a little magnet to anything that contains the remote possibility of aiding his vertical ascent. Legs passing by, the slats of his crib, the coffee table, even other smaller children. He climbs up and over them with a level of determination that is pretty funny and not always safe.

But lately, he has also begun to almost-crawl. Maybe two knees forward is the most we've seen so far. He prefers to push back from all fours to a sitting position, and then to lunge forward on his knees in another direction, then push back to sitting, etc, until he's scooted over to where he'd like to be.

My non-linear baby.

applause!

The kid can clap. To music. In response to a question. After eating a (rare) bite of mush. And often for no reason at all. My favorite rendition occurs whilst standing at the coffee table (which, incidentally, he can pull up to, scoot around, and bang with ease these days). He grunts and growls with delight, lets go, and claps while falling backwards. The landing isn't fun, but he can't quite make the connection yet between letting go of support and tumbling down.

the 14th of Augustus

Happy birthday buddy.

Linc tries to crawl, but prefers to hitch a higher ride.

While Fiona gets sandwiched.

And Gus gets gets some help with his wish.

During an afternoon spent with old (and newest) friends.

Ritik reads Lincoln

the Approval Matrix.
Lincoln removes page and eats it.

Linc + lettuce + language

He's starting to enjoy our Friday afternoon jaunts to retrieve our farm share. In addition to the usual grass eating, a busy bee and the chickens were favorites on this visit. And the ride on his father's shoulders.

Our house sees rarely a quiet moment these days, as Linc has been regaling us with lengthy, and rather emphatic, performances of the opacities of his growing brain. Yelled vowels and drawn-out babbles, punctuated with a fair share of table slapping, arm flexing and impromptu biting are endeared to us by a bevy of giggles and toothy smiles. The overall effect is not unlike the frenzied machinations of a house cat before a thunderstorm or a crazy person on a sugar high.

He is not a quiet kid, and I really have no idea what he's talking about.
